Birational geometry of algebraic varieties with a pencil of Fano complete intersections
We prove birational superrigidity of generic Fano fiber spaces V/P1, the fibers of which are Fano complete intersections of index 1 and dimension M in PM+k, provided that M ≥ 2k + 1. The proof combines the traditional quadratic techniques of the method of maximal singularities with the linear techniques based on the connectedness principle of Shokurov and Kollár. Certain related results are als...
متن کاملIntersections of Translated Algebraic Subtori
We exploit the classical correspondence between finitely generated abelian groups and abelian complex algebraic reductive groups to study the intersection theory of translated subgroups in an abelian complex algebraic reductive group, with special emphasis on intersections of (torsion) translated subtori in an algebraic torus.
متن کاملNorm Varieties and Algebraic Cobordism
We outline briefly results and examples related with the bijectivity of the norm residue homomorphism. We define norm varieties and describe some constructions. We discuss degree formulas which form a major tool to handle norm varieties. Finally we formulate Hilbert’s 90 for symbols which is the hard part of the bijectivity of the norm residue homomorphism, modulo a theorem of Voevodsky. 2000 M...
متن کاملAffine Algebraic Varieties
In this paper, we give new criteria for affineness of a variety defined over C. Our main result is that an irreducible algebraic variety Y (may be singular) of dimension d (d ≥ 1) defined over C is an affine variety if and only if Y contains no complete curves, Hi(Y,OY ) = 0 for all i > 0 and the boundary X − Y is support of a big divisor, where X is a projective variety containing Y . We const...
متن کاملAlgebraic Stein Varieties
It is well-known that the associated analytic space of an affine variety defined over complex number field is Stein but the converse is not true, that is, an algebraic Stein variety is not necessarily affine. In this talk, we will give sufficient and necessary conditions for an algebraic Stein variety to be affine. One of our results is that a quasi-projective variety Y defined over complex num...
